The Defense Before Agrippa
Commentary
Acts 26 is the account of Paul's defense before King Agrippa. Paul is on trial for his faith in Jesus Christ and his mission to spread the gospel. In this chapter, Paul recounts his conversion experience and his subsequent mission to preach the gospel to the Gentiles. Paul begins by recounting his conversion experience on the road to Damascus. He explains how he was blinded by a bright light and heard a voice from heaven telling him to go to Damascus and preach the gospel. Paul then explains how he was baptized and received the Holy Spirit, and how he was sent to preach the gospel to the Gentiles. Paul then goes on to explain how he was persecuted for his faith and how he was brought before King Agrippa. He explains how he was accused of being a troublemaker and a blasphemer, but he defends himself by saying that he has done nothing wrong. He then goes on to explain how he has been preaching the gospel to the Gentiles and how he has been trying to convince them to turn to God. Paul ends his defense by appealing to King Agrippa's own knowledge of the scriptures. He explains how the prophets foretold the coming of the Messiah and how Jesus fulfilled those prophecies. He then asks King Agrippa if he believes in the prophets and if he believes that Jesus is the Messiah. The account of Paul's defense before King Agrippa is a powerful reminder of the importance of standing firm in our faith. Paul was willing to risk his life to preach the gospel and to defend his faith. His courage and conviction should serve as an example to us all.
