The Divided Kingdom
Commentary
In 2 Chronicles 13, we read about the reign of Abijah, the son of Rehoboam. Abijah was the king of Judah and he reigned for three years. He was a righteous king who followed the Lord and sought to lead the people of Judah in the ways of the Lord. In this chapter, we read about the battle between Abijah and Jeroboam, the king of Israel. Abijah had a much smaller army than Jeroboam, but he trusted in the Lord and was confident that the Lord would give him victory. He reminded the people of Israel of the covenant that God had made with David and encouraged them to turn back to the Lord. In the end, the Lord gave Abijah the victory and Jeroboam was defeated. This victory was a reminder to the people of Judah that the Lord was with them and that they should remain faithful to Him. The chapter ends with a reminder that the Lord is faithful and that He will keep His promises. This is an important reminder for us today, as we seek to remain faithful to the Lord and trust in His promises.
