Elihu Speaks
Commentary
Job 33 is a chapter that speaks to the importance of communication between God and man. Elihu, a young man who has been listening to Job's lamentations, speaks up and offers his own perspective on the matter. He begins by affirming that God is sovereign and that He speaks to man in various ways. Elihu then goes on to explain that God speaks to man through dreams, visions, and even through pain and suffering. He emphasizes that God's purpose in speaking to man is to bring him back to the path of righteousness and to warn him of impending danger. Elihu then goes on to explain that God is merciful and that He will forgive man's sins if he repents and turns away from them. He also encourages Job to seek God's counsel and to listen to His voice. Elihu's words are a reminder that God is always present and that He desires to communicate with us. We must be willing to listen and to heed His warnings if we are to experience His blessings.
