Commentary

Romans 16 is a chapter of greetings and farewells. Paul is concluding his letter to the Roman church and is sending his greetings to many of the people he knows in the church. He begins by commending Phoebe, a deaconess of the church in Cenchrea, for her service to the church. He then sends greetings to Priscilla and Aquila, a married couple who were fellow workers with Paul in the gospel. He also sends greetings to the church that meets in their house. Paul then sends greetings to many of the people he knows in the church, including Mary, who has worked hard for the church, and Andronicus and Junia, who were in prison with Paul. He also sends greetings to Ampliatus, Urbanus, Stachys, Apelles, and the household of Aristobulus. Paul then warns the church to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the teaching they have learned. He encourages them to be wise in what is good and innocent in what is evil. He then sends a final greeting to the church and closes the letter with a benediction.
