The Law of the Nazirite
Commentary
In Numbers 6, we see the Lord giving Moses instructions for the Nazirite vow. This vow was a special vow of dedication to the Lord that was taken by individuals who wanted to dedicate themselves to the Lord for a period of time. The Lord gave Moses specific instructions for how the vow was to be taken and how it was to be observed. The Lord instructed that the person taking the vow was to abstain from wine and strong drink, and was not to cut their hair. They were also to avoid contact with dead bodies, and were to be holy to the Lord. The Lord also instructed that the person taking the vow was to offer a special offering to the Lord at the end of the period of dedication. This chapter is a reminder of the importance of dedicating ourselves to the Lord and of offering ourselves to Him in service. It is a reminder that we should strive to be holy and to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to the Lord. It is also a reminder that we should be willing to offer ourselves to the Lord in service and to make sacrifices for Him.
