Meet the heroes of Revelation

Commentary

Revelation 9 is a chapter of great significance in the book of Revelation. It is the beginning of the fifth trumpet, which is the first of the three woes. This chapter is a vivid description of the torment that will be inflicted upon those who have not accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. The first part of the chapter describes a star that falls from heaven and opens the bottomless pit. From the pit comes a great smoke, and out of the smoke come locusts with the power of scorpions. These locusts are commanded not to harm the grass, the trees, or any green thing, but only those who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. The second part of the chapter describes the king of the locusts, Abaddon, or Apollyon. He is described as having a face like a man, and a body like a lion. He is given power to torment those who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads for five months. The third part of the chapter describes the torment that will be inflicted upon those who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. It is described as a torment like that of a scorpion when it stings a man. The torment will be so great that those who are tormented will seek death, but will not be able to find it. Revelation 9 is a powerful reminder of the consequences of rejecting Jesus Christ as our Savior. It is a warning to all who have not accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior to turn to Him and accept Him as their Lord and Savior. Those who do not will suffer the torment described in this chapter.
