A Cry for Help

1 {To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.} Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O LORD.
2 Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul: let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my hurt.
3 Let them be turned back for a reward of their shame that say, Aha, aha.
4 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.
5 But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying.

Commentary

This psalm expresses the deep yearning for God's intervention in times of distress. The author, believed to be David, is in a state of trouble and is being threatened by enemies. In desperation, he cries out to God for swift rescue. The psalmist's approach is one of complete surrender to God's mercy and grace. He pleads with God to hasten His deliverance and confound his enemies. He acknowledges his incapacity to save himself and his reliance on God's unfailing love. The psalmists of old didn't mince their words when addressing God. They poured out their hearts with raw emotions, laying bare their innermost thoughts and feelings. Through their words, we learn how to approach God- honestly and transparently. As we navigate life's challenges today, this psalm encourages us to approach God with open hearts and complete faith. It reminds us that we can trust God in times of trouble and find comfort in His promises of protection and deliverance.
