Psalm 23

Commentary

Psalm 23 is perhaps the most well-known of all the psalms. Its comforting imagery of a gentle and caring shepherd has brought hope and encouragement to readers for centuries. David begins by declaring that the Lord is his shepherd, indicating a deep personal relationship. He describes the care and provision of the shepherd, stating that God makes him lie down in green pastures and leads him beside still waters. David's trust in God is evident as he declares, "even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me." The psalm ends with David praising God for his goodness and mercy, and expressing his desire to dwell in God's presence forever. This psalm is a reminder that God is with us no matter what we face and we can trust in Him completely.
