The Foolishness of Rejecting God

1 {To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.} The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
2 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.
3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD.
5 There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous.
6 Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge.
7 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the LORD bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

Commentary

This chapter opens with a strong statement about those who deny the existence of God. It highlights the fact that such individuals are corrupt, evil, and have no sense of morality or compassion. The psalmist goes on to explain that God is looking down from heaven, searching for those who seek Him and live according to His ways. It's clear that those who reject God's rule are doomed to fail, as their actions only lead to destruction and misery.Psalm 14 is a wake-up call to all those who have turned their backs on God. It's a reminder that life without Him is empty and meaningless, and that ultimately, the final destination of such a life is destruction. The psalmist calls on all believers to stand firm in their faith, and to trust that God will protect and guide them, even in the midst of trials and tribulations. Ultimately, Psalm 14 is a call to repentance, as it highlights the foolishness of rejecting God and the joy and peace that comes from a life lived in fellowship with Him.
