Psalm 109

Commentary

Psalm 109 is a difficult passage to read and understand. At first glance, it seems harsh and vengeful. However, when we look deeper, we can see that the psalmist is not asking for revenge, but for justice. He trusts that God is a just and righteous judge who will bring righteousness and justice to the world.The psalmist's enemies are not just random people who have wronged him. They are people who have actively plotted against him and sought to harm him. They have lied about him, betrayed him, and spoken against him. In this context, the psalmist's cry for justice is understandable and relatable.Psalm 109 reminds us that it is okay to cry out to God when we have been wronged. It is okay to ask for justice and to trust that God will bring it about. At the same time, we must also remember to forgive those who have wronged us, as Jesus taught us to do.
