In Numbers 32, we see the tribes of Reuben and Gad, as well as the half-tribe of Manasseh, asking Moses for permission to settle in the land of Gilead, east of the Jordan River. Moses is initially hesitant to grant their request, as he is concerned that they will not fulfill their obligation to help the other tribes in the conquest of the Promised Land. However, after the tribes of Reuben and Gad pledge to send their warriors to fight alongside the other tribes, Moses agrees to their request. This chapter serves as a reminder of the importance of fulfilling one's obligations. The tribes of Reuben and Gad were willing to put aside their own desires in order to help their fellow Israelites in the conquest of the Promised Land. This is a lesson that we can all learn from, as it is important to remember that our own desires should not come before our obligations to others.
