Commentary

In Numbers 18, the Lord instructs Aaron and his sons to take responsibility for the duties of the priests. He tells them that they are to be responsible for the offerings of the people, the most holy things, and the altar. He also tells them that they are to be responsible for the care of the sanctuary and all its furnishings. The Lord then tells Aaron and his sons that they are to receive a portion of the offerings from the people. He tells them that they are to receive the best of the firstfruits of the land, the firstborn of the animals, and the firstborn of the clean animals. He also tells them that they are to receive the firstfruits of the grain, the new wine, and the oil. The Lord then tells Aaron and his sons that they are to receive a tenth of the tithe from the people. He tells them that they are to use this tithe to support the Levites, who are responsible for the care of the sanctuary. Finally, the Lord tells Aaron and his sons that they are to receive a portion of the offerings from the people.
