Nehemiah 6
Meet the heroes of Nehemiah
Commentary
In Nehemiah chapter 6, we see Nehemiah's enemies attempting to distract him from his mission of rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem send Nehemiah a series of messages, each one more urgent than the last, asking him to meet with them in a different location. Nehemiah is wise enough to recognize their ploy and refuses to meet with them. He knows that if he leaves Jerusalem, the work on the walls will be delayed and his enemies will have the opportunity to attack. Nehemiah also faces opposition from within the city. Shemaiah, a false prophet, attempts to convince Nehemiah to hide in the temple for safety. Nehemiah refuses, knowing that it would be a sign of weakness and would only encourage his enemies. Nehemiah's faith and courage in the face of opposition is an example for us all. He stands firm in his convictions and refuses to be swayed by the schemes of his enemies. He is a model of faithfulness and perseverance, and his example encourages us to remain steadfast in our own faith.
