Commentary

Mark 15 is the account of Jesus' crucifixion. It begins with the Roman governor, Pilate, reluctantly handing Jesus over to be crucified. Pilate had tried to release Jesus, but the Jewish leaders insisted on his death. The soldiers then mocked and tortured Jesus before leading him away to be crucified. The chapter then describes the crucifixion itself. Jesus was nailed to the cross and hung there for hours. During this time, passersby mocked him and the Jewish leaders continued to call for his death. Jesus was eventually taken down from the cross and buried in a nearby tomb. Mark 15 is a powerful reminder of the suffering Jesus endured for our sake. It is a reminder of the great love Jesus had for us, that he was willing to endure such pain and humiliation for our salvation. It is also a reminder of the power of faith, as Jesus remained faithful to God even in the face of death. Finally, it is a reminder of the hope we have in Jesus, that even in the darkest of times, God is still with us.
