Commentary

Judges 11 is a chapter in the Old Testament of the Bible that tells the story of Jephthah, a brave and courageous leader of the Israelites. Jephthah was a man of great faith and courage, and he was chosen by the people of Israel to lead them in battle against the Ammonites. Jephthah was successful in his mission, and he was able to defeat the Ammonites and reclaim the land that had been taken from the Israelites. The chapter begins with Jephthah making a vow to God that if God would help him to defeat the Ammonites, he would offer up as a burnt offering whatever came out of his house first when he returned home. Unfortunately, when Jephthah returned home, the first thing that came out of his house was his daughter. Jephthah was devastated, but he kept his vow and offered his daughter as a burnt offering. The chapter ends with Jephthah's daughter accepting her fate and asking for two months to mourn her virginity before she was sacrificed. This act of selflessness and faithfulness to God is a testament to Jephthah's character and his commitment to his vow. Overall, Judges 11 is a powerful story of faith and courage. It is a reminder of the importance of keeping our promises and of the power of faith in God. Jephthah's story is an example of how God can use even the most difficult of circumstances to bring about His will.
