Commentary
John 16 is a chapter that speaks to the power of the Holy Spirit and the comfort that He brings to believers. Jesus is preparing His disciples for His departure and the coming of the Holy Spirit. He tells them that the Spirit will convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. Jesus also tells them that the Spirit will guide them into all truth and will bring to their remembrance all that He has said. Jesus also speaks of the persecution that His disciples will face. He tells them that they will be hated and persecuted for His name's sake. He encourages them to remain steadfast in their faith and to take heart, for He has overcome the world. The chapter ends with Jesus' promise that He will not leave them as orphans, but will send the Holy Spirit to be with them. This is a powerful reminder of the comfort and strength that the Holy Spirit brings to believers. He is our Comforter and Advocate, and He will never leave us.
