Eliphaz Responds

1 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
2 Dominion and fear are with him, he maketh peace in his high places.
3 Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise?
4 How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?
5 Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight.
6 How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?

Commentary

Job 25 is a short chapter that serves as a brief interlude between Bildad's second speech and Eliphaz's third speech. In this chapter, Bildad offers a brief response to Job's words in chapter 24. He begins by praising God's greatness and power, noting that God's majesty is so great that no human can even begin to comprehend it. He then goes on to suggest that Job's suffering is a result of his own sin and that he should humble himself before God in order to receive mercy. Bildad's words are a reminder to Job that God is in control and that Job should not question God's justice. He also serves as a reminder to Job that he should not be prideful and should instead humble himself before God. This is a common theme throughout the book of Job and serves as a reminder to us all that we should not question God's justice and should instead trust in His mercy.
