Isaiah 47

Commentary

Isaiah's prophecy of the fall of Babylon is a warning to all those who trust in worldly power and oppress God's people. Babylon represents the worldly powers that seek to rule over people and enslave them. However, God's judgment on Babylon shows that worldly power is ultimately fleeting and will come to an end. The chapter reminds us that pride goes before destruction, and that only humility before God can prevent our downfall. As Christians, we are also called to stand against oppression and injustice, and to always trust in the power of God over the power of the world.
