Commentary

Genesis chapter 4 is the story of Cain and Abel, two brothers who offer sacrifices to God. Cain, the older brother, offers some of the fruits of the ground, while Abel offers the firstborn of his flock. God is pleased with Abel's offering, but not with Cain's. This angers Cain, and God warns him that sin is crouching at his door, ready to consume him. Cain then kills Abel in a fit of rage. God confronts Cain and asks him where Abel is. Cain lies and says he does not know. God then curses Cain and marks him so that no one will kill him. He also banishes him from the land. This chapter is an important part of the Bible as it shows the consequences of sin and how it can lead to destruction. It also shows how God is willing to forgive and protect those who repent and turn away from their sins. It is a reminder to us that we should always strive to do what is right and to seek God's forgiveness when we fail.
