Commentary

Daniel 5 is a chapter that tells the story of King Belshazzar's feast and the writing on the wall. It is a story of God's judgment and the consequences of not honoring Him. The chapter begins with King Belshazzar throwing a great feast for a thousand of his lords. During the feast, he orders the vessels of gold and silver that were taken from the temple in Jerusalem to be brought out and used. This is a direct violation of God's commandment and an act of disrespect to Him. In response, God sends a hand to write a mysterious message on the wall. No one is able to interpret the message, so the king calls for Daniel to interpret it. Daniel explains that the message is a warning from God that Belshazzar's kingdom will be taken away from him and given to the Medes and Persians. The chapter ends with Belshazzar being killed that very night and his kingdom being taken away. This serves as a reminder to us that God is in control and that He will judge those who do not honor Him. We must be careful to obey His commands and show Him respect.
