In 2 Samuel 12, we see the consequences of David’s sin with Bathsheba. The Lord sends the prophet Nathan to confront David about his sin, and David is convicted and repents. As a result of his sin, the Lord sends a punishment of death to the child born of the union between David and Bathsheba. Despite this tragedy, David still shows his faith in the Lord by accepting the punishment and praying for the child’s life. The chapter also shows us the consequences of David’s sin on his family. David’s son Amnon is killed by his half-brother Absalom in revenge for his rape of Tamar. This leads to a civil war between David and Absalom, which ultimately results in Absalom’s death. The chapter serves as a reminder of the consequences of sin and the importance of repentance. David’s repentance is accepted by the Lord, and he is ultimately forgiven.
