2 Samuel 11 is a chapter that details the tragic story of David's sin with Bathsheba. It begins with a description of the time of year when kings would go out to battle, and how David chose to stay behind in Jerusalem. This decision would prove to be a fateful one, as it was during this time that he saw Bathsheba bathing on her roof. David then sent for her, and she became pregnant with his child. The chapter then goes on to describe how David attempted to cover up his sin by having Bathsheba's husband, Uriah, sent to the front lines of battle. David hoped that Uriah would be killed in battle, thus allowing him to marry Bathsheba without anyone knowing the truth. Unfortunately, Uriah refused to go home and sleep with his wife, and David was forced to have him killed. The chapter ends with the prophet Nathan confronting David about his sin. Nathan's words are a powerful reminder of the consequences of sin, and how God will not tolerate it. This chapter serves as a warning to all of us to be careful of our actions and to remember that God will judge us for our sins.
