The story of Joachim

Joachim was the husband of Saint Anne and the father of the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus, according to tradition. He is venerated as a saint in the Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Roman Catholic Churches. Little is known about his life, but he is considered to be a righteous man in Jewish tradition. Joachim and Anne's story is told in the Protoevangelium of James, a non-canonical text from the 2nd century. The feast day of Saint Joachim is celebrated on September 9th in the Eastern Orthodox Church and on July 26th in the Roman Catholic Church.
