Stephen

Stephen was a deacon in the early Christian church and one of the first martyrs. He was born in Jerusalem and was a Hellenistic Jew, meaning he was a Jew who had adopted Greek culture and language. His parents were Euthyme and Gorgonia, and he had two siblings, Philip and Prochorus. Stephen is best known for his role in the early church. He was one of the seven deacons chosen to serve the church in Jerusalem, and he was known for his wisdom and eloquence. He was a powerful preacher and was able to convince many people to convert to Christianity. This angered the Jewish authorities, who arrested him and brought him before the Sanhedrin. Stephen defended himself with a powerful speech, but the Sanhedrin was not convinced and had him stoned to death. Stephen's death was a major event in the early church, and he is remembered as the first Christian martyr. His death was a major catalyst for the spread of Christianity, and his legacy is still remembered today.
