Joshua was a leader in the Hebrew Bible, and the successor of Moses as the leader of the Israelites. He is best known for leading the Israelites into the Promised Land and for his role in the conquest of Canaan. Joshua was born in Egypt and was one of the twelve spies sent by Moses to scout out the land of Canaan. He was also one of the only two spies who returned with a positive report and encouraged the Israelites to enter the land. After the death of Moses, God chose Joshua to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land and gave him the task of conquering the various Canaanite cities and tribes. Under Joshua's leadership, the Israelites were able to conquer the cities of Jericho, Ai, and many others. Joshua also led the Israelites in dividing up the land among the twelve tribes, a process that is described in the book of Joshua in the Old Testament. After a long and successful career as a leader and warrior, Joshua died at the age of 110. He is remembered as a faithful servant of God who was instrumental in the establishment of the nation of Israel in the Promised Land.
