Delaiah

Delaiah was a biblical figure who lived during the time of the Babylonian captivity. He was the son of Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, and the grandson of Elpaal. He was the brother of Shelemiah, and the father of Shemariah. Delaiah is best known for being one of the three men sent by King Zedekiah of Judah to the prophet Jeremiah to inquire of the Lord concerning the outcome of the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem. Delaiah and his two companions, Shelemiah and Gemariah, were sent to Jeremiah to ask if the Lord would grant them mercy and deliver them from the Babylonians. Jeremiah's response was that the Lord would not deliver them, but that they should surrender to the Babylonians. Delaiah is also mentioned in the book of Nehemiah, where he is listed as one of the leaders of the people who returned to Jerusalem after the Babylonian captivity. He is also mentioned in the book of Ezra, where he is listed as one of the leaders of the people who returned to Jerusalem from Babylon. Delaiah is remembered for his role in the Babylonian captivity, and for his role in the return of the people of Judah to Jerusalem. He is also remembered for his faithfulness to the Lord, and for his willingness to seek the Lord's guidance in difficult times.
